Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about VoltGlass® technology.

Basics

What is VoltGlass®?

Transparent heated glass that converts electricity into radiant heat. Unlike regular windows that only insulate, VoltGlass® actively heats the interior – without visible heating elements.

How does it work?

The basis is an invisible metallic nanolayer on the glass surface. When current passes through, it heats evenly and emits infrared heat – similar to a tiled stove or the sun.

How is it different from regular heated glass?

No wires, coils or foils. The heating layer is part of the glass itself, invisible, and works directly with 230 V without transformers.

Heat and Comfort

How quickly does it start heating?

Feel the heat within seconds. Full power in max. 30 minutes. Surface temperature for interior comfort ranges from +25 to +50 °C, for exterior applications up to +80 °C.

Why does it heat mainly inward?

Low-emissivity coatings and insulating glass construction direct heat where you need it. Minimum energy escapes outside.

What comfort does it provide?

Eliminates the "cold feeling" near large glazed areas. You can sit right by the window even in freezing weather – no cold drafts.

Does it prevent condensation and frost?

Yes. By raising glass temperature above dew point, it eliminates condensation. On roof windows, it melts snow and frost.

Consumption and Efficiency

Why is the heating so efficient?

Electricity-to-heat conversion efficiency is 95%. Radiant heat warms people and objects directly, not air – comfort is achieved at lower air temperature.

What is the actual consumption?

Thanks to thermostat control, glass heats only in short cycles. Actual consumption depends on mode: from ~25 Wh/m² (condensation prevention) through ~35 Wh/m² (comfort zone) up to 120 Wh/m² (snow and ice removal).

Control and Installation

How is it controlled?

Like underfloor heating. Set the temperature via thermostat or smart home – the system maintains it automatically.

Does it need special equipment?

No. Direct connection to standard 230 V mains. No transformers, simple electrical installation.

Is it safe?

Absolutely. Conductive parts are sealed inside the glass. We use high-strength tempered glass resistant to mechanical damage and thermal shock.

Applications

Can it be the main heating source?

Yes. In modern energy-efficient buildings, it fully replaces radiators and underfloor heating. Complete freedom in interior design.

How much glass area do I need?

Roughly 1 m² of heated glass covers 8–12 m² of floor area. Depends on insulation and ceiling height.

Where does it have the greatest benefit?

Large-format windows, conservatories, pool halls, modern offices, historic building renovations. Maintenance-free system with lifespan up to 25 years.

Is the glass really transparent?

Yes. The heating layer is 60× thinner than human hair – invisible to the eye. Preserves natural colors and high light transmission.
